The section began with the transcription of audio and video recordings of discussions
held during the pilot project of Women’s Oral History that took place a few years
ago with support from the government’s General Directorate for Women’s Status and
Problems. The collection comprises the audio casse.. es of interviews made in 1994 of
fourteen women born prior to 1923, transcriptions, photographs taken during the interviews
as well as video recordings of four of them. Colleagues from this section are
at the present time conducting interviews with the fi rst graduates of the Erenköy Girls
Lycée in Istanbul who are still alive, as well as with women with professional careers
who have made important contributions in their respective fi elds.
